May 2026 letter 🧚
exhibition + documentary news and a birthday sale!
Hi! I hope spring has been treating you well so far 🌸
Here’s a look back at Foire Plural last month:
Self-portrait with apple branches (hand painted), presented with Galerie COA
This was my first time exhibiting one of my hand-coloured prints, and the biggest one I’ve made yet!
Archival latex black & white pigment print, hand painted with watercolour and copic inks on 100% cotton handmade paper - 24 x 36 inches - 1/1
The original image is a self-portrait photograph created in the spring of 2019 using crabapple branches from the backyard of my childhood home.
This photo was taken as part of my Puberty project, exploring my relationship with femininity and masculinity while taking testosterone. The symbolism of the apple tree branch reminds me of the story of Eve in the garden of eden, the apple representing forbidden feminine pleasure and knowledge.
I feel that trans people are often viewed through a similar lens, with the autonomy over our gender identity & presentation being perceived as an illicit way of life.
Here is the full Galerie COA booth - thank you to everyone who came by during Foire Plural!
I am very grateful that this artwork sold during the fair and am working on more of these large pieces, but in the meantime I do have some smaller 8x10inch hand-coloured prints available via Galerie COA :
You can also get these custom-framed, just reach out to the gallery and they will set it up for you!
Here’s an example of one of my hand-painted 8x10 prints framed and ready to go its new home! You can see the process of making this exact print in my february newsletter here
Larry, the feature-length documentary film on my art practice directed by Catherine Legault is available to watch for free as part of the Festival International du Film sur l’Art throughout the month of May.
You can read more about the documentary here : https://lefifa.com/nouvelles/larry-iel
And watch the film online for free here (canada only) until May 31st!
The exhibition Gen Z: Shaping a new gaze which was presented last year by Photo Elyzée in Switzerland is now on show in Germany at Fotografie Forum Frankfurt until August 30
If anyone goes to see it please send me photos! For now this is a little blurry preview ~
