September Letter
Hi friends! Happy end of September, start of Fall and Libra season ✨
This is my favourite time of the year - the light in September just hits different!
It’s a beautiful sunny day today as I write this, I just got back from a bike ride to Galerie COA, followed by a walk to the park with Nina and Vashti.
I’ve been really enjoying the new year energy that comes with this time of year : spending a lot of time offline, deep cleaning + organizing my space, wrapping up previous projects, and finally shipping out all of my Kickstarter orders.
All posters have been shipped out, and the postcards are packaged & ready to ship this week 🧡
Once all my kickstarter duties are taken care of, I’ll be updating my print store with the remaining items - but most of all, I’m looking forward to start digging into my archive of photo & video work from this entire year (!) and have new work to share with you soon.
Today being orange shirt day / “truth & reconciliation” day, I’m taking some time to encourage you to continue educating yourself on the ways in which colonialism and the ongoing legacy of trauma of residential “schools” directly impacts indigenous communities today - Wet’suwet’en checkpoint on instagram offers a lot of resources to start you off.
Beyond awareness, I encourage you to be vocal about these issues year-round, and to give direct financial reparations to indigenous folks and communities in your area whenever you can.
For those of you in Tio’tia:ke / Montreal, the 17th Annual Memorial Vigil for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Trans and Two-Spirit People will take place on Tuesday October 4th at 6 pm. A vigil will be held at Cabot Square followed by a march on Saint-Catherine. More info here
Resilience Montreal also accepts donations, click here to see which items they currently need the most.
Check out this wonderful review of my work by Julia Skelly in the latest issue of Esse Magazine.
& another beautiful review of my book Puberty on photobook journal by Gerhard Clausing here.
I’ll be presenting work with Galerie COA as part of Art Toronto, on October 27-30 - I’m thinking of coming to Toronto for the occasion (I haven’t been since pre-pandemic times!), so maybe I’ll see you there 👀
